Since everyone’s height and walking style is different, this question cannot be answered exactly. You can’t tell how much 10,000 steps is in km for you without knowing how far one of your steps is. And depending on the terrain you’re walking in and how fast you’re going, your steps will also be different lengths.
But maybe you’ve heard that you should take 10,000 steps a day if you want to lose weight. And you’re wondering if you can easily make it happen. Or if you’ll lie on the ground bright red in the face and think you’re going to die after such a walk.
How many steps per day are needed to achieve weight loss?
How far is 10,000 steps? You can rest easy. 10,000 steps won’t make you vomit from the effort. This is roughly equivalent to 6-8 km. Yes, it’s super long if you’re not used to walking. But keep in mind that you’ll have to add up all your steps over a whole day. You don’t have to do a continuous 5-mile power walk to get these steps. If you have a job where you move around a lot, you might already be getting up to 10,000 steps a day.
However, if you want to use walking as a way to lose weight, 15,000-16,000 steps a day is recommended. Unless you do something else too. A little harder to get to but certainly not impossible.
